TT2 manages two toll tunnels that connect North and South Shields, enabling over 60,000 daily journeys. TT2 is a sizeable organisation with extensive behind-the-scenes operations to maintain the tunnels and facilitate this high volume of traffic.

We supported them in transitioning to a ruly free-flowing toll system. This involved a holistic approach to re-thinking all aspects of their company. We worked with the TT2 to re-imagine their customer facing website. We re-built their entire customer facing platform as well as their internal back office system.

Through regular reviews and discovery sessions with IT and business improvement teams, we identified current challenges and explored how technology could drive positive change. The platform's user demographic spanned a wide range of ages and technical abilities, making accessibility and user experience paramount.

A unique challenge was ensuring that users added a vehicle and account balance to properly utilise the platform. We had to navigate these necessary friction points while creating a sign-up flow that encouraged users to complete these actions without becoming discouraged.

The multi-faceted platform featured various alternate UIs tailored to different account types. Key features included a waterfall-style menu that prioritized essential information without cluttering the interface. Additionally, we implemented UI prompts to remind users of their balance and suggest when it was time to top up.

We hosted various interviews and workshops with end users where we refined the customer experience and made iterations to features which formed part of a development roadmap. We also ran hotjar where we analysed and monitored user behaviour with the features.

We ran multiple workshops looking at the content and user journeys through the website. They resulted in a unique navigational system implemented to provided users with specific routes through the site based on their needs. The single-column layout simplified the UI, allowing us to focus on key areas of interest as users scrolled.

The Result

The implementation of the product development roadmap, executed in phased stages, allowed for meticulous impact measurement of each update.

This approach ensured that every modification contributed to a tangible improvement in user experience. Continuous analysis of user engagement post-implementation ensures that the application evolves in response to user needs, driving sustained positive impact.
